In August 2006, after a very quiet start to the hurricane season, we finally saw a tropical system, TS Ernesto,  forecast to come very close to us in Brevard County. Not wanting to take any chances with our new home, we evacuated early to Salt Springs Recreation Area in the Ocala National Forest. Ernesto's forecast was worse than the actual event. It fizzled to barely a tropical depression but we got to spend 2 very enjoyable days in the forest without the weekend crowds.
